Reflections, Biohacking & the Future of Health

Written by Desirae Pierce

As summer settles over Austin, I find myself looking ahead to my August birthday — a natural moment for reflection. With two months to go, I pause and ask: Am I happier? Stronger? Healthier? Have I honestly released old injuries, heartbreaks, and betrayals? Am I aligning more closely with my intentions — personally, professionally, financially, and spiritually?

And of course, how is my practice? Am I deepening my practice in breathwork, meditation, movement, and sound healing?

As the years begin to stack up, I also find myself wondering: What will my health look like in the future? Will I age with vitality? Or face something unforeseen?

These questions were especially present this week as I had the incredible opportunity to assist at Dave Asprey’s Biohacking Conference right here in Austin. As a yoga teacher, I’m endlessly fascinated by the intersection of ancient wisdom and cutting-edge science. Yoga invites us into embodied awareness and accountability. Biohacking involves collecting data, metrics, and achieving measurable change.

It was an honor to sit in the same room and listen to the most forward-thinking leaders in health, science, and human potential:

Dave Asprey — founder of Bulletproof and the father of biohacking

James Nestor — author of Breath, explores the power of proper breathing

Martin Luther King III — a global human rights advocate and the legacy of the King family

Dr. Joe Dispenza — neuroscientist and bestselling author focused on meditation and healing

Christina Drapeau — researcher and educator in nootropics and cellular health

Jirka Rysavy — founder of Gaia, innovator in conscious media

Jim Kwik — brain coach and memory expert

Dr. Vincent Giampapa — Nobel-nominated anti-aging and stem cell pioneer

Dr. Victor Urzola — regenerative medicine specialist focused on cellular optimization

Dr. Patrick Porter — founder of BrainTap, merging neuroscience with guided meditation and brainwave entrainment

The conference also showcased cutting-edge technologies such as PEMF therapy, red light therapy, hydrogen treatments, sound and light therapies, and my personal favorite — stem cell regenerative medicine.

What I found was a single, unifying message among them all: take full accountability for your own health.

Breathe deeply. Meditate. Practice yoga. Walk in nature. Move your body. Eat intentionally. Forgive often. Be of service.

The medical system is evolving,  but it still primarily focuses on treating symptoms rather than preventing them. We now have the opportunity to take control of our health and invest in our well-being before a crisis forces us to.

When we shift our mindset — from managing illness to cultivating vitality — we create space for lasting transformation. As we age, our bodies and minds can stay young, vibrant, and resilient. Longevity isn’t just about adding years to your life — it’s about adding life to your years.

And it starts with the choices we make every day.

If you’re looking for a powerful summer read, pick up any of their books—you’ll be launched into a new reality of functional health, longevity, and perhaps you will even discover a few superpowers of your own.
