HILLS Over Heels
My dream was to wear a suit and carry a briefcase.
I grew up focused on dance: ballet, jazz, modern. Deep down that was my passion, and I hoped to pursue it as a career; however, when I visited the University of Texas at Austin’s dance program, I quickly realized I had been a big fish in a small pond in high school, and this career was out of reach for me.
As a lover of math, games and riddles, I made the choice to study Accounting at UT in hopes of moving back to Houston after graduation and becoming a successful CPA—wearing a suit and high heels while carrying a briefcase full of tax returns every day.
AUSTIN CHANGED ME
After being in Austin a few months, I realized my true self loved the outdoors, exercise, sneakers, HILLS over heels, pony tails and the lake! So I started using all electives in my program to study Kinesiology and learn everything there was to know about the human body and its capabilities.
I DIDN’T KNOW I WAS AN ATHLETE
During my sophomore year, I started teaching dance aerobics and step classes for extra money and I fell in love with all things fitness. Spin classes started as the new craze and I was hooked. Then I saw the movie, The Terminator 2–you know the opening scene? The pull ups— BAM—I decided I wanted to be strong enough to do pull ups like Linda Hamilton! So strength training, then personal training, then competitive sports filled my days.
Competitive beach volleyball, triathlon, and eventually wakesurfing — and importantly teaching these empowering activities to others became my complete and absolute focus…and career!
I eventually opened my own studio, Tetra Fitness, which offered spin classes, strength and HIIT workouts and Personal Training. It was a dream.
Fortunately I met the BodyTime team when they were presenting about Women’s Health And Longevity one day at PURE Yoga 2 years ago. As a client, BodyTime changed my health so significantly that I have been able to guide my clients to health improvements as I learn more and more from them about Strength Training, Nutrition and Longevity. This was so eye-opening to me that I decided to join the team full-time this year, and it has upgraded my life in so many ways.
I have been a member of PURE since 2005 (I think?). I can’t imagine life without it. The practice has kept me active and competitive in my most important passions, and I know I will be doing the yoga until I am 100.
